Blogging tips for those getting started

Tonight, as I finished up work, wrote the last email, and got ready to write my blog post, I didn't feel like writing much.

My day had been filled with writing already. My brain was tired. I was hungry and I could hear my wife making dinner just outside my office.

Thankfully, my routine came to the rescue. It was 5:30 and time to sit down and write a post.

I already had a topic – one I'd added to my editorial calendar because of a tweet I'd seen the other day.

Did I have any blogging tips?

The tweet had asked about finding time to blog more. And I had immediately jotted down a note and then later added it to my calendar for times like this – when I was tired and didn't feel like writing.

Because just looking at the topic removed two dynamics:

  • First, I didn't question whether I would write or not. It was a given.
  • Second, I didn't question what I would write about. It was a given.

So now, all that was left was to write. And seeing the topic gave me some immediate energy. I knew exactly what I wanted to say.

We all have the same amount of time

It's easy to say we don't have time to write. It's easy to say our day is just jammed pack. But the truth is that we all have the same amount of time every day to spend as we see fit.

So the reality is that it's all about choices.

Today, because of how I was feeling, I decided to record my post in a video form. So here are my blogging tips – just for you (in a 9 minute video).
